We want your attention to clarify and address some important points about this wiki, and why this wiki was deleted and re-registered recently.
- BEFORE YOU READ: The individual involved in the incident had been demoted as content moderator on the Windows Never Released Wiki, this information will still remain up as public knowledge and to defend against future attempts of accusations against us, and have FANDOM staff aware that this wiki doesn't have a proper reason to be deleted going forward. We ask that you do not go and hate this individual nor the wiki as the Microsoft Wiki has formally re-established relations with the wiki in-question after this incident.
- The Microsoft Wiki will not use Microsoft Fanon as a direct competitor to the Windows Never Released Wiki in any regard. It simply gives us no benefit at the end of the day nor to them.
1) We cover the same topic & fanbases about Microsoft products. But we are different entities with no relations to each other.
- The same topics being covered, are just by coincidence not realized by the original wiki founders as this wiki was never intentionally created to a hate or a spin-off of these wikis respectively. Nor was it in the first place by it's original wiki founders.
- Microsoft Fanon pre-dates these wikis and had a long following of contributors, before they even started on the FANDOM platform.
2) Microsoft Fanon's situation before the deletion and merger on September 4, 2022
- The Microsoft Fanon Wiki (microsoftfanon.fandom.com) was founded originally on February 18, 2012 by the fans.
- The Microsoft Wiki "spin-off" (microsoft-fanon.fandom.com) of this wiki was founded on October 17, 2019 by our staff.
- As the result of the incident, users of these 2 wikis have now been re-registered into the original Microsoft Fanon Wiki subdomain and the wiki is now officially owned and maintained by Microsoft Wiki staff.
3) The September 4, 2022 false wiki deletion reporting incident
- On the evening of September 4, 2022 Microsoft Wiki staff were informed by it's users that both the spin-off and original Microsoft Fanon wikis were deleted by FANDOM staff over violating their "wiki duplication policy". We were never informed by FANDOM staff over this, therefore the exact time when the 2 wikis were deleted are still unknown.
- However, as it later turned out this wasn't the case at all over our initial assumption of our spin-off wiki ever having anything to violate the policy in the first place. But rather a content moderator specifically, Leonel Sohns from the Windows Never Released Wiki had falsely reported the Microsoft Fanon's entities to be deleted from the FANDOM platform over the fact that it had been a duplicate of the Windows Never Released Wiki in-terms of it's Windows fanon topics and etc to FANDOM staff.
- Therefore, we quickly contacted FANDOM over why they did this and they stated that they've analyzed the wiki's traffics and interests from the editors and it seemed low and was eligible for deletion at the time. As a second resorted option, we asked for the wiki's data backup files, but they profoundly refused to help further citing "the wiki was closed" long ago resulting in the temporary wiki backup data files to be forever deleted from their servers rendering it unrecoverable.
As a result of this, we are truly sorry for the loss of years worth of fanon-created content and will continue to salvage what still remains on the Internet Archive to rebuild the Microsoft Fanon Wiki. We've tried our best, but we can't go further.
